Li Keqiang highlights IPR protection in Sino-EU cooperation

China and Europe should further open their mutual market and expand the scope of technical exchange and cooperation, while also enhancing IPR protection and deepening the partnership regarding the development of new and renewable resources so as to secure mutual benefits, said Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang in a speech during the closing ceremony of 2012 China-EU Energy Conference on May 3.

As Li addressed, the huge potential of China-EU partnership in energy field lies in the efforts related to urbanization, new energy and energy saving. This could partly be attributed to the current situation in China, where urbanization embodies the greatest potential to drive domestic demand, resources have become the bottleneck for development, and energy conservation is regarded as a key step to promote sustainable growth. Of course, the prominence of Europe with respect to new energy and energy saving is another reason. The two parties are perfectly supplementary in this regard.

From a future-oriented perspective, China and Europe should further open mutual market, expand technical communication, protect intellectual property rights and deepen practical cooperation, said Li, such as to advance cooperative projects regarding the development of new and renewable energy, equipment manufacturing, engineering construction and industrialization, strengthen the communication on safe exploitation of nuclear energy and work together in innovation concerning low-carbon cities, environment-friendly buildings, and energy saving in industries and transportation. China welcomes Europe to adopt more flexible and open policies when addressing technology transfer to China and wishes to create a win-win environment featuring mutual reciprocity and mutual benefit.
