Renewal and grace period

Where the registrant intends to continue to use the registered trademark beyond the expiration of the period of validity, an application for renewal of the registration shall be made within six months before the said expiration. Where no application therefore has been filed within the said period, a grace period of six months may be allowed. If no application has been filed at the expiration the grace period, the registered trademark shall be cancelled.

The period of validity of each renewal of registration shall be ten years. Any renewal of registration shall be published after it as been approved.

The application for renewal should be filed with the application form for trademark renewal. Power of attorney is required for renewal. The renewal date of a registration is 10 years from the registration approval date. Renewals last for 10 years from the renewal date of the registration. The renewal pre-payment period is no more than 6 months before the renewal date.


There is a grace period for renewing registrations once the renewal date has expired.

The grace period after the renewal date has expired is 6 months. The penalty for late renewal is a fine. Renewal cannot be affected online.

If amendment is needed, the trademark office shall notify the applicant to make amendment .If the applicant fails to do so within a prescribed time, trademark office shall not approve the renewal. If any application of renewal had not been approved; the trademark office will send notice of disapproval to the applicant.
